Terms of Service
Effective date: August 5, 2026 (Last revised: October 19, 2026)
These Terms of Service are written in Korean, and translations such as the English and Dutch versions are provided to help users understand them. In the event of any conflict of interpretation between a translation and the Korean original, the Korean original shall prevail. However, where the meaning of these Terms is unclear, they shall be interpreted in favor of the user, and this clause does not limit the protection guaranteed to the user by the laws of the country in which the user resides.
01 Article 1 (Purpose)
These Terms of Service (hereinafter "Terms") aim to stipulate the rights, obligations, responsibilities, and other necessary matters between K-NARU (hereinafter "Company"), a business based in the Republic of Korea, and the Member regarding the use of the website and online education platform (hereinafter "Service").
02 Article 2 (Definitions)
- 1. "Company" means the business entity located in South Korea that provides the K-NARU service.
- 2. "Service" means the online Korean language education provided by the Company to users worldwide and all services ancillary to it.
- 3. "Member" means an individual who agrees to these Terms and uses the Service.
- 4. "Account" refers to the email and password registered by the Member to use the Service.
- 5. "Content" refers to all intellectual property provided by the Company within the Service, including lecture videos, live video classes, textbooks, images, and text.
03 Article 3 (Effect and Amendment)
- 1. These Terms become effective upon the Member's agreement when signing up for the Service.
- 2. The Company may amend these Terms to the extent that it does not violate relevant laws (e.g., Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions of South Korea).
- 3. When amending these Terms, the Company will post the content of the amended Terms, the reasons for the amendment and the effective date on the website from at least 30 days before the effective date, and will notify each Member individually by email.
- 4. If, when giving notice under paragraph 3, the Company clearly informed the Member that failing to express refusal before the effective date would be deemed consent to the amended Terms, and the Member nevertheless does not express refusal, the Member shall be deemed to have consented to the amended Terms. A Member who does not agree to the amended Terms may terminate the service agreement. The amended Terms do not apply to the course fees, class content or refund criteria of courses paid for before the effective date (except for changes favorable to the Member); such courses remain governed by the Terms in effect at the time of payment.
04 Article 4 (Service Use and Sign-up)
1. Members must register using their real name or accurate personal identification information.
2. [Age Restriction]
In accordance with applicable regulations (such as the GDPR), only users aged 16 or older may sign up on their own. Users under 16 must enter the details of their legal representative (such as a parent) when signing up, and may use the service only after the legal representative consents through the consent request the Company sends them. If the legal representative does not consent within 30 days of sign-up, or refuses consent, the Company will delete the account and the information entered. Accounts created without this procedure by entering a false date of birth or other false information may be deleted once discovered; in that case, fees already paid for classes not yet provided will be refunded. In addition, where a member is a minor under the laws of their country of residence, a course contract concluded without the consent of the legal representative may be cancelled by the member or the legal representative in accordance with those laws.
3. The Company may suspend the use of the Service by, or terminate the service agreement with, a Member who has used another person's identity or provided false information. In such cases, the Company will notify the Member of the reason by email and, unless the identity theft is evident, give the Member an opportunity to explain. If the service agreement is terminated, course fees already paid will be refunded according to the criteria for reasons attributable to the user under Article 9(2), and if the Company or a third party suffers damage as a result, the Member shall be liable to compensate for it in accordance with applicable laws.
05 Article 5 (Protection of Intellectual Property and Anti-Abuse)
All content within the Service provided by the Company is protected under the Copyright Act of the Republic of Korea and international treaties.
1. Prohibition of Illegal Copying and Distribution:
Members may not record, capture, record audio, reproduce, distribute, sell, or upload to the internet (SNS, YouTube, etc.) any lecture videos, live class screens, textbooks, etc., under any circumstances without the explicit written consent of the Company.
2. Prohibition of Account Sharing:
A single account may only be used by the registered individual. Transferring, lending, or sharing account information with others is strictly prohibited.
3. Damages and Legal Action:
If a Member violates the above rules, the Company may restrict that Member's use of the Service or terminate the service agreement. If the service agreement is terminated, course fees already paid will be refunded according to the criteria for reasons attributable to the user under Article 9(2). The Member shall be liable to compensate the Company for any resulting damage under applicable laws, including the Copyright Act of the Republic of Korea, and may be subject to criminal penalties.
06 Article 6 (Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability)
1. Force Majeure:
The Company shall not be liable for damages where it is unable to provide the Service due to force majeure beyond its control, such as natural disasters, war, national emergencies or global telecommunications network failures. Even in such cases, however, the Company will provide make-up classes for the classes it was unable to deliver and, where a make-up class is not feasible, will refund the course fees for those classes.
2. Third-Party Service Interruptions:
The Company shall not be liable for damages arising from service delays or payment errors caused by system errors, outages or maintenance of the cloud infrastructure providers (e.g., Cloudflare, Supabase) or the payment service provider (PayPal) themselves, unless the Company acted intentionally or negligently. Any classes not delivered as a result will be made up or refunded in accordance with the proviso to paragraph 1.
3. Cap on Damages:
The Company's liability for damages in connection with the use of the Service shall not exceed the amount actually paid by the Member for the service in which the problem arose. However, this cap does not apply to damage caused by the Company's intent or gross negligence, damage involving death or personal injury, or any other damage for which liability cannot be limited under applicable laws (including the mandatory provisions of the country in which the Member resides).
07 Article 7 (Governing Law, Jurisdiction and Dispute Resolution)
- 1. These Terms and the service agreement between the Company and the Member are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. However, if the Member is a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive the Member of the protection afforded by those provisions of the laws of the country of the Member's habitual residence that cannot be derogated from by agreement (mandatory provisions).
- 2. Lawsuits concerning disputes between the Company and the Member shall be filed with the court having jurisdiction under applicable laws. If the Member is a consumer, the Member may bring proceedings not only before the courts of the Republic of Korea but also before the courts of the country of the Member's habitual residence, and any proceedings brought by the Company against the Member shall be brought before the courts of the country of the Member's habitual residence.
- 3. The Company handles Members' opinions and complaints as a priority and, where it cannot resolve them promptly, will inform the Member of the reasons and the processing schedule. To resolve a dispute, the Member may apply for mediation to a dispute mediation body in the Republic of Korea, such as the Korea Consumer Agency, or to a consumer dispute mediation body in the country in which the Member resides.
08 Article 8 (Payment, Refunds, and Subsidiary Rules)
1. Waiver of Liability for Exchange Rates and Fees:
All payments for the Service are processed through the global payment provider PayPal in US dollars (USD) or euros (EUR), and the payment currency is shown before payment. If the payment currency differs from the currency of the user's PayPal account or card, PayPal or the card issuer may apply its own exchange rate and conversion fees, for which the Company is not responsible. Refunds are made in the currency of the payment, so the amount the user actually receives may differ from the amount at the time of payment due to exchange rate fluctuations.
2. Other specific procedures and criteria for refunds and cancellations are governed by Articles 9, 10 and 12 of these Terms.
09 Article 9 (Refund Policy)
1. Right of Withdrawal and Exceptions
Users have the right of withdrawal guaranteed by the Korean Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce and by the consumer protection laws of the country in which they reside, and no provision of these Terms limits that right. Consumers residing in the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA) may, in principle, withdraw from the contract (full refund) within 14 days of payment without giving any reason, in accordance with the EU Consumer Rights Directive. However, if the user expressly requested that classes begin during the withdrawal period and then withdraws, the refund is reduced by the amount corresponding to the classes provided up to the time of withdrawal; for digital content, the right of withdrawal ends once delivery begins after the user has expressly consented to immediate delivery and acknowledged that they thereby lose the right of withdrawal.
Users may exercise the right of withdrawal using the methods described in paragraph 4, the model withdrawal form at the end of these Terms (use of which is optional), or any other clear statement of their decision to withdraw. Appendix. Model withdrawal form
2. Refund Criteria
If classes cannot be provided for reasons attributable to the Company, the Company will refund the course fees already paid, less the fees for the classes already provided. If the user stops taking a course for reasons attributable to the user (including where the user stops of their own accord, such as a simple change of mind), the refund is made according to the criteria in the following subparagraphs. These criteria are equivalent to the tuition refund standards set out in Annex 4 of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Establishment and Operation of Private Teaching Institutes and Extracurricular Lessons of the Republic of Korea, and apply to all users regardless of their nationality or country of residence.
- 1. Where the course period (from the first class day to the last class day) is one month or less: before the first class begins, the full amount paid is refunded. After the first class begins, 2/3 of the amount paid is refunded before 1/3 of the total class hours has elapsed, and 1/2 of the amount paid before 1/2 of the total class hours has elapsed; no refund is made after 1/2 of the total class hours has elapsed.
- 2. Where the course period exceeds one month: before the first class begins, the full amount paid is refunded. After the first class begins, the refund is the sum of (i) the amount obtained by applying the ratios in subparagraph 1, based on that month's class hours, to the course fee for the month in which the user stopped taking the course, and (ii) the full course fee for the remaining period from the following month onward. Months are counted in one-month units from the first class day, and the course fee for each month is the amount paid divided in proportion to the class hours in each month.
- 3. Elapsed class hours are calculated as of the day on which the user notifies the Company of their intention to stop taking the course, and classes the user missed are also counted as elapsed class hours. Where the right of withdrawal under paragraph 1 or the criteria under the laws of the user's country of residence are more favorable to the user than these criteria, those more favorable criteria apply.
3. Refund Method and Processing Time
Refunds are, in principle, returned to the PayPal account with which the user paid. The Company processes the refund within 3 business days of receiving the refund request (or, in the case of withdrawal, the notice of withdrawal), and depending on PayPal's processing schedule, it may take 7-14 days for the funds to actually arrive.
4. How to Request a Refund
Users may request cancellation and a refund using the 'Cancel Enrollment & Request Refund' button under 'Enrollment Status' on the course page, or by emailing customer support. Upon receiving a request, the Company notifies the user by email of its receipt and the estimated refund amount, and the time at which the request is received is deemed the reference date under paragraph 2, subparagraph 3. Members with an ongoing paid enrollment may delete their account after cancelling the enrollment and obtaining a refund, or after the classes have ended.
5. Course Cancellation
The Company may state the minimum number of students and the course confirmation date for each course in the course information. If a course is cancelled because the minimum number of students has not been reached by the course confirmation date, or is cancelled for Company reasons before the first class, the Company refunds the full amount paid and notifies users by email. If classes are discontinued for Company reasons after they have begun, the refund is made according to the criteria in paragraph 2 for reasons attributable to the Company.
10 Article 10 (Class Operation Rules)
1. Class Participation Principles
Live classes are held on the designated video platform (Zoom), and access links may not be shared with others. Students must keep their camera on throughout the class for interaction. If a student intentionally turns off the camera or leaves the class, the instructor may remove the student from the class.
2. Prohibited Actions and Dismissal
If unauthorized recording/capturing during class, insulting or discriminatory remarks toward other students or the instructor, or disruption of the class (driving, eating, etc.) is confirmed, the instructor may immediately remove the student from the class. If the violation is serious or is repeated after a warning, the Company may terminate the relevant course contract, in which case course fees already paid will be refunded according to the criteria for reasons attributable to the user under Article 9(2).
3. Absence and Make-up Classes
No make-up classes or separate refunds are provided for tardiness, early leave or absences due to the student's personal circumstances, and missed classes are counted as elapsed class hours under Article 9(2).
11 Article 11 (Regional Pricing, Restrictions on Improper Use and Payment Review)
1. Regional Pricing
The Company may set different course fees and payment currencies for different countries and regions. Course fees are calculated based on the country from which the Member connects to the Service at the time of payment, and the amount and currency are shown before payment. Regional prices are intended for Members who actually reside or are staying in the country concerned.
2. Prohibited Acts
Members must not engage in any of the following acts:
- Disguising the country of connection by means of a VPN, proxy, remote access or similar method, or providing false information about the country of residence or stay, in order to obtain the price of a country in which the Member does not actually reside or stay;
- Creating multiple accounts or using another person's identity to circumvent the per-person usage limit of a coupon, or transferring or selling coupons by any method not permitted by the Company;
- Otherwise intentionally exploiting errors or loopholes in the Service to use the Service for less than the legitimate course fee.
3. Verification Procedure
If the country of connection differs from the country of the payment method, or if an act described in Paragraph 2 is suspected, the Company will notify the Member of the reason by email and give the Member an opportunity to explain within a reasonable period. The Company may withhold approval of the enrollment concerned until the verification is complete. Materials submitted by the Member for this explanation are used only for verification and are destroyed without delay once the verification is complete.
4. Measures in Case of Violation
If a violation of Paragraph 2 is confirmed, the Company may take the following measures depending on the severity of the violation:
- Requesting payment of the difference between the course fee applicable in the country where the Member actually resides or is staying and the amount already paid (or, in the case of improper coupon use, the amount of the discount received). If the Member pays this amount, the enrollment remains in effect;
- If the Member does not pay the amount under Item 1 within a reasonable period, terminating the enrollment contract concerned. In this case, the Company refunds the amount already paid minus the fee (at the regular course fee) for the classes provided up to the time of termination;
- If violations are repeated or the intent is serious, temporarily suspending use of the Service or terminating the service agreement;
- If the violation causes damage to the Company, claiming compensation in accordance with applicable laws.
5. Exceptions
The measures in Paragraph 4 do not apply where there is no intent on the part of the Member, such as when the Member connects while actually staying in another country for travel or business, or when the Company has determined the country incorrectly.
6. Payment review after repeated refunds
If two or more refunds have been processed at the Member's request in the last 90 days, the Company may, to manage costs such as payment fees, accept the Member's next paid payment only after the Company has reviewed it. The Member may request a review through the consultation chat or by email to customer support, and the Company will notify the Member of the result without delay. Refunds arising from the Company's circumstances, such as course cancellation or the rejection of an enrollment, are not counted, and this paragraph does not affect the withdrawal or refund of contracts already concluded or courses in progress.
12 Article 12 (Coupons)
- The discount rate, validity period, eligible courses and usage limit of a coupon are shown when the Company issues or announces the coupon.
- Coupons cannot be exchanged for cash or refunded. Restrictions on the transfer and sale of coupons are governed by Article 11, Paragraph 2, Item 2.
- The Company may, without prior notice, revoke or suspend the use of any coupon issued in error by the Company or obtained in violation of Article 11.
- If the Company ends a coupon before its validity period expires for reasons on the Company's side, the Company will give notice by email or by a notice within the Service at least 7 days before the end date. Discounts already applied to payments before the end date remain in effect.
- When a course enrollment for which a coupon was used is refunded, the criteria of Article 9 are applied to the amount the Member actually paid. If the payment is refunded in full or a free enrollment application is rejected, the coupon used will be returned; however, a coupon whose validity period has already expired cannot be used even if it is returned. If only part of the payment is refunded, the coupon will not be returned.
